What the editor does
The editor writes and maintains the guides on this site, reviews service pages for accuracy and keeps the source lists up to date. The role is about clear, checked information for people running online stores in Australia: what the rules say, what platforms document and what published price guides report.
We use a pen name for the editor role. We do not attach invented credentials, qualifications or employment history to it, and the guides do not rely on personal authority. Each claim stands on the source cited next to it.
How guides are researched
- Primary sources first. Regulator pages from the ACCC, ATO, OAIC, ACMA and RBA, standards bodies such as the PCI Security Standards Council and W3C, and official platform documentation.
- Secondary sources only when needed. Law firm summaries or industry articles are used where no primary source covers a point, and they are labelled as secondary.
- Commercial sources labelled. Price ranges come from commercial price guides, labelled as commercial publishers, with the date of the figures.
- Dates on everything. Each source list says when the sources were checked, and each source shows its own date where it has one.

When rules change
Several topics on this site change often: card surcharging, consumer law reforms and platform requirements among them. When a rule changes, the affected guides are updated, the "Updated" date changes and the source list is rechecked. The editorial policy explains how corrections are made.
