Before you get in touch
You do not need a finished brief to contact us. A few lines about what you sell, where you sell it now and when you would like to launch are enough to start. The project planner can help you collect more detail if you want to.
The questions below cover platforms, timelines, costs, ownership, payments and support. Each answer links to a page with more detail where one exists.
All questions
Which e-commerce platforms do you work with?
Shopify, WooCommerce and BigCommerce, plus headless builds on Shopify's Hydrogen, BigCommerce's Catalyst or another front end. See the platform comparison.
Which platform do you recommend?
The one that fits your catalogue, budget and the people who will run the store. We have no commission arrangement with any platform, and the quote explains our reasoning.
How long does a project take?
We plan for six to ten weeks for a new store on a theme we configure, ten to sixteen weeks for custom design and build, four to eight weeks for a migration without design changes, and eight to fourteen weeks for a migration with design changes. The process page explains what affects timing.
Who will I deal with?
One named contact for the whole project, who keeps decisions and changes in writing.
How much does an online store cost?
It depends on scope. Published 2026 Australian guides put a template Shopify store at about $2,000 to $8,000 and custom builds well above that. See the cost guide and how we quote.
Do you have a portfolio?
Cartmavrix is a new studio with no client work to show yet. The store concepts page shows four illustrative designs for fictional brands and explains the thinking behind each.
Who owns the store when it is finished?
You do. Your domain, platform account, content, design files and the theme code we write belong to you once the project is paid for. Third-party themes, apps and fonts stay under their own licences.
Can you move my store from another platform?
Yes. We map products, customers, orders and URLs, and set up redirects. Customer passwords cannot be moved, so we plan the account emails. See store migration.
Can my checkout still add a card surcharge?
Not on eftpos, Mastercard or Visa payments since 1 October 2026, and, according to the RBA, American Express and UnionPay also removed surcharging, with PayPal following on 5 October 2026. Payment method discounts are still allowed. See the surcharges guide.
Do my prices have to include GST?
If you are registered for GST and sell to consumers, the displayed price should be the total they pay, including GST and unavoidable fees. See the GST guide.
Will my store be accessible?
Templates we build are checked against WCAG 2.2 Level AA with a keyboard, a screen reader and contrast tools. Content you add later, such as images without descriptions, can still introduce problems, so the handover notes explain what to watch.
Is my customers' card data safe?
We use hosted checkouts or the payment provider's hosted card fields, so card numbers do not reach your servers. The PCI DSS guide explains what stays your responsibility.
Can you connect the store to my accounting or inventory system?
Usually, through an app, a connector service or custom code. We check each system during planning. See integrations.
Do you write product descriptions?
We write templates, sample copy and guidance. For large catalogues, writing every description is usually best done in-house or by a copywriter using that guidance.
Do you guarantee rankings or sales?
No. Rankings and sales depend on products, prices, competition and marketing as well as the website. We build the parts a website can control well.
What happens after launch?
A review two weeks after launch is included. After that you can run the store yourself with our handover notes or choose an optional care plan.
Do you work outside Australia?
Our guides and price display advice focus on Australian rules. We build stores for businesses selling to Australian customers, including those that also ship overseas.
How do I get started?
